19 Months Later, Toke Makinwa & Maje Ayida’s Marriage Is Dissolved

Months after filing for a divorce from her estranged husband, Maje Ayida, popular OAP, Toke Makinwa has finally been granted her wish.

The 2-year-old marriage was yesterday, October 5th, 2017 dissolved by an  Igbosere High Court.

Toke who filed for the divorce on March 9th, 2016, said she could not stay in the marriage after she found out that her fitness husband, Maje was expecting a child with a young woman identified as Anita Solomon while she was still married to him.

While delivering judgement, Justice Morenike Obadina said the law had to take its place as there was no evidence to support Maje’s plea.

Obadina ruled:

“Pleadings on which no evidence was led are deemed abandoned. Therefore, Ayida’s evidence is deemed abandoned. The effect being that the petitioner’s evidence is unchallenged and uncontroverted.”

The judge said the issue of cruelty which the petitioner (Toke) relied on was established because of the “mental and emotional stress” she was subjected to by her husband.

“I hold that the marriage has broken down on grounds of intolerable behaviour.

I hereby pronounce a ‘Decree Nisi’ dissolving the marriage between Makinwa and Ayida which was administered at the Federal Marriage Registry, Ikoyi, Lagos, on January 15, 2014.

The order Nisi shall become absolute three months from today unless within that period sufficient cause is shown why it should not be made absolute,” Obadina said.

According to Toke, since her marriage to Maje, he had “behaved in a way she could not reasonably be expected to continue to bear”. Adding that their differences were irreconcilable.

The media personality also revealed during their trial that as a couple, they quit cohabiting in November, 2015 based on the above mentioned grounds.
