Benue varsity governing council suspends VC, appoints acting

The Governing Council of the Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo in Benue State, has appointed Professor Ediga Bede Agbo as the acting Vice Chancellor, following the suspension of the institution’s pioneer VC, Professor Innocent Ujah.

This development was announced in a statement released on Monday by the university’s Coordinator of Information, Publication, and Public Relations, James Onogwu, and made available to journalists on Tuesday.

The statement noted that Professor Agbo’s appointment was made during a special meeting of the Governing Council held on October 17, 2024, presided over by the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Council, Ohieku Salami.

The statement read in part, “Professor Ediga Bede Agbo has been appointed as the acting Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo.

“This decision was reached at a special meeting of the Governing Council, chaired by the Pro-Chancellor.”

The statement further revealed that Professor Ujah was suspended by the Governing Council for alleged gross misconduct and willful disregard for the Council’s authority.

When contacted for comment, the embattled VC, Professor Ujah, declined to provide details, stating that the committee handling the matter would hear from him soon.
