Court fines Rufai Oseni N70,000 for using BRT lane

A Lagos Mobile Court has found journalist Rufai Oseni guilty of contravening Lagos State Transport Law of 2018.

Mr Oseni’s car was seized on Monday after he drove on the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) lane.

The Arise TV anchor had claimed a policeman pointed a gun at him over the incident despite saying he would pay a fine for the infraction. The police said his allegation will be investigated.

Lagos police spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin said in a tweet that the court fined Oseni N70,000 for the infraction.

“Mr Rufai Oseni was in court earlier today. He was found guilty of contravening Lagos State Transport Law (2018).

”He was subsequently fined Seventy Thousand Naira Only. He made the payment, after which his vehicle was released to him,” Hundeyin wrote.

A video of Oseni’s clash with the police went viral on Tuesday. In the video, the enraged journalist threatens to call Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on the policemen.

“I will call the governor,” he tells the policemen.
