Edo travellers’ lynching senseless, tragic act – Kebbi lawmaker

A member of the House of Representatives representing Birnin Kebbi/Kalgo/Bunza Federal Constituency, Ibrahim Mohammed, has strongly condemned the killing of some travellers in Uromi, a community in Esan North-East Local Government Area of Edo State, Edo State, calling for swift justice against those responsible.

In a statement on Saturday, Mohammed decried the incident as a “senseless and tragic act,” emphasising that such lawlessness undermines the principles of justice, unity, and peace.

“It is deeply troubling that innocent individuals were targeted and brutally murdered based on false allegations. Such acts of mob violence must not be tolerated. I urge security agencies to conduct a thorough investigation, ensure those responsible face justice, and take decisive steps to prevent future occurrences”, he said.

Expressing his condolences to the bereaved families, the lawmaker prayed for the repose of the victims’ souls and urged Nigerians to work collectively in fostering a safer and more just society.

The killings have sparked nationwide outrage, with calls for urgent action to address the rising cases of jungle justice in Nigeria. Legal experts and activists have reiterated the need for stronger enforcement of laws against mob violence, warning that failure to act decisively could further erode public trust in the justice system.
