Obaseki Lauds Osimhen Over Marc-vivien Foe Award

Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki has hailed an Edo indigene and Super Eagles striker, Victor Osimhen, who was named winner of the 2020 Marc-Vivien Foe award for Africa’s best player in Ligue 1.

Obaseki said Osimhen has made the state and Nigeria proud with his envious feat, applauding him for being a good role model for millions of Edo youths.

The governor stated, “Hearty congratulations to Edo son and Super Eagles striker, Victor Osimhen, on his Prix Marc-Vivien Foé win, awarded to the Best African Player in the French Ligue 1. He is doing Edo proud at Lille and we celebrate him for being an enviable ambassador of our dear state.”

He added that the state government would continue to encourage more sporting talents like Osimhen, with the setting up of the Edo State Sports Commission and the improved investment in sports development, resulting in the revamping of the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium and construction of 20 mini-stadia across the 18 local government areas in the state.

Noting that the activities were being designed to engage more youths in sporting activities in the state, the governor said, “We are desirous of making our sports sector a profitable and viable node in our diversified economy.

“This informed all the investment we are making. It should be such that youths would have a plethora of options to choose from when they are faced with making career choices. So, we are engaging them in productive sectors of the economy. Grassroots sports is one of such avenues we are engaging our young people.”
